Another photo from the mobile phone. Indigo was at the playground on the weekend, staring out at ocean with a sense of bemusement, wondering what was out there beyond Sydney Heads and her home in Middle Harbour. Well Indi, the beaches out there are great, but there is a lot to be grateful for about your beach (check the recent image below from up the coast where we like to get the odd beach house for the weekend - image courtesy of Shackside).
Thanks to my friends who bought me a Big Day Out ticket for my birthday. I had to try and embrace my inner 15 year old as this was my first Big Day Out after a 9 year hiatus. I remember many of them in the past as an eager whippersnapper in the thick of the crowd. The price has tripled in that time but the core of it is the same.
Last night was more mellow with a nice perch for looking over to the stage and some space to see the bands. I think everyone in our group felt their age as the shirtless teens streamed past. Tool as predicted were epic. The rest...ho hum. Not only did Tool play an amazing set, they only spoke once and offered the best advice of the night - "Thankyou Sydney. Go home and take a bath". I don't take baths (unlike my brother-in-law who loves a good soak with his book) but the sentiment was well understood by this old guy.
So, here are the hints that we are getting old. 1. Not turning up until almost dark to make it a very manageable big half day out. 2. Refusing to line up with the great unwashed to buy drinks. 3. Almost vomiting with disgust at the state of the bathrooms. 4. Packing some soothing Werthers (Petrea!) for the trip home. 5. Sleeping on the train home.
Aaahhh, almost Australia Day, the wonderful public holiday that the NSW education minister does not know why we celebrate. What are our kids learning?
What we are excited about. > Melanie is commenting again. > Indi is almost running (trotting) > Going to the Gold Coast soon. > Amanda Vanstone got the boot. > Stephen Colbert
What we are not excited about: > Chocolate Wood Man. > Amanda Vanstone might become a diplomat. > Willow has broken down. Here he is in happier days. The alternator packed it in.
We both got new mobiles on Monday. One excitable chose a high end camera phone to allow us to capture life on the run and add it to the Excitables. Here is the first snap...talk about convergence - excellent quality.
The gym membership is going on hold as we are burning plenty of calories chasing after this little trouble maker now that she has found her feet.
In and out of shops, walking out of restaurants, and skipping through half open doors...the world is now her oyster and she loves every minute of her freedom
Sunday night, watching So You Think You Can Dance, the dance copy of American Idol, the modern copy of Talent Quest , and Indi goes for a boogie. She tries to dance in time with each contestant and rarely misses a beat. If you think we are making it up, think again...
P.S. watch for her spontaneous surfing stance halfway through the clip - very cool.
We get some good photos of Indi and the gang but there is often a lot of coaxing going on in the background - here we are caught in the middle of our tenth self portrait attempt at Montezumas (which was unusually awful). Continual pointing, repetition of "Indi, Indi...look at the camera..." and lots of clapping are par for the course.
Well, there were plenty of winners and losers at the Golden Globes this week. Celebrities = winners, rest of us = losers. Free products, massive salaries, months off per year, adoration from the general public, ah the life of a celeb. The only person I know how has anything similar is Penelope...joking, baby.
What we are excited about this week: > Penelope's tummy is growing, heaps...(joking again) > New Adventures of Old Christine. I honestly don't know why we like it but it makes us laugh. > Buttercup's Cafe Style raisin toast - we all love it.
> The Race To Dakar with Charley Boorman was very good. > We are getting a new Idiot Box this weekend. 42" of unadulterated Liquid Crystals - Goodbye golden glow of the Cathode Ray Tube. > Pink Lady apples.
What we are not excited about: > The Tennis - yawn. > Beckham and Jolie won out for click throughs against An Excitable on news.com.au Celebrities; is there anything they can't do? > The Qantas Frequent Flyer program is going to be messed up after the impending take over. > Companies who say "We'll need you to be there between 8am and 1pm...come on - that's pathetic, it wastes half your day. How does this sound, "we'll pay you somewhere between january and july, and somewhere between what you asked and what we think is fair.
Dear Indigo and Code Name Fizz, one day in the future, when you are out in the water with your dad and he is middle aged, he wants to surf as smoothly as this ...
Thanks to some clever work from Pete at News Digital Media, an Excitable is surfing on the home page of Rupert's news.com.au, vying for readers against the likes of David Beckham and Angelina Jolie. You might recognise the photo from Pete's work at Boomerang last year which featured in a previous post -
We have been trying to quit foxtel for 6 months and they have done a stellar job in trying to keep us. We had postponed the re-installation a bunch of times and they had been very accommodating. Every time I tried to leave they used their considerable sales training to say things like:
Why do you want to leave - has there been a problem?
What if we were able to get you the channels that you want at a price that you thought was reasonable?
It was good to be on the end of this type of behaviour as we train our sales force to say the same thing. Good to see what it felt like.
Dear Foxtel, I appreciated your efforts but you are still way over-priced for the junk that you broadcast (think 24 hours of MASH re-runs) and the fact that you sold out your user base by introducing ads. At the moment we can't justify $80 per month, but thanks for the memories.
Sure you can call us bad parents for not using a spoon but if a spatula is the only thing that your child wants to eat from, then the spatula it is. Sure beats her going to bed hungry.
Brush your teeth, regardless of how old you are. According to the sales pitches of the toothpaste companies, millions of people are suffering in silence with gingivitis - not in our household!
Bangalow (previously bungahole) is apparently now a happening and cool place. Hello to all of you that we caught up with at the Christmas Eve celebrations in Bangalow (pictured below.)
Whilst Dad was at Curl Curl and having an un-naturally bad time of standing on his board and shredding it up, he returned home to find why - all the family standing karma was being channelled to Indigo for her first steps. Check them out...
We have finally made it to 12 weeks!! Well, we are closer to 13 weeks now......so we officially welcome Fizz to the blog. As some of you already know, we are expecting another baby in July and as everything around here has a name, the fetus has been lovingly called Fizz (because that is what it makes my tummy do, well, Fizz is a nice way of putting it.)
Indigo and I suspected the pregnancy when we were staying at Cams' Mum and Dads place in Byron. Cam wasn't there for the stick test, so Indi and I took a picture to share the moment with him. This is us hiding in the bathroom with the little stick with 2 lines!
Indi is strongly influenced by her parents and what we eat. She will try Ginger Beer. She tried and love extra vintage, extra sharp cheese. During a summer's night, P was enjoying a Calypo...
We thought that Indi would think it would be a walk in the park but things played out very differently....
Repulsed. Disgusted. and...determined to try again. An adventurous eater indeed!!!
You will recognise a new look to the blog. We had to change templates to allow for the comment function to work again. It is live so you can all post your comments.
